Another banger from Binary Dreams
New Quay, Ceredigion, Wales
New Quay is a small coastal town in Cardigan Bay which seems to completely close down during winter.
The reason for the visit was to help with some dolphin surveying of the population in Cardigan Bay with the Welsh Sea Watch Foundation. Sadly in our 2 hour land watch we didn’t see any Bottlenose Dolphin, Tursiops truncatus but there were plenty of sea birds to see instead.
A small Rock Pipit, Anthus petrosus (3) was busy feeding on the quay next to me during the survey, whilst the ever present Herring Gulls, Larus argentatus (4)(6) and Black-Headed Gulls, Chroicocephalus ridibundus (7) were busy wheeling around in the wind.
The highlight in my opinion was the 3 Shags, Phalacrocorax aristotelis (9)(10) these were busy feeding in the rocks under the quay, quite a few times they surfaced with a fish in their beaks.
